  1. Poovar is a small coastal, fisherman village located 35 km from Trivandrum and 20 km from Kovalam. Poovar is a beautiful island which is surrounded by the river called Neyyar. Neyyar River – It originates from Agastyarkoodam Hills near Trivandrum and after 56 Kms of flowing its long journey ends at the Arabian Sea. During heavy monsoon, it carries sand and mud and an estuary is formed which become the present form of Poovar. The river, which ends its flow at the Arabian Sea, become wider and it appears to be a lake. There are only a few resorts located on the banks of the river Neyyar. One can see the lake first, and then the beach and the Arabian Sea. The main attraction of Poovar is – the backwater river, lake and Arabian sea joining together, which, one will not get to see anywhere in Kerala. Poovar beach starts where the backwater ends. Below photo is taken from a famous resort in Poovar. One can see the river first, then the sandy beach and the sea. Likewise one needs to have a motorboat or country boat to reach the beach. All the resorts are located on beautiful natural surroundings, very good view of the river and to the Arabian Sea. The place is so calm those who looking for yoga, meditation or some sort of relaxation then Poovar is the idle location to spend.
